Email Fraud Advisory
-- Updated November 2005
Fraud Name: Prize winning from New Day Lottery International
Description: Email claims to be from the New Day Lottery based out of England. The "winners" are notified via email that they have won an Internet lottery in which their email address was picked by software powered by the Internet. There is a shipping fee that the "winner" must pay for receiving the prize. The scam offers two options for sending the prize winnings - either via Federal Express or UPS.
The email states that the prize "is protected by hardcover insurance policy by GEOTRUST INSURANCE COMPANY."
Please be advised that GeoTrust sells identity verification products and trust services for e-business. GeoTrust is not an insurance company and is in no way connected to the New Day Lottery.
Recommended Action: It does not appear to be a legitimate offer. We would advise that you do not respond and/or do not send any money or personal information.
GeoTrust Action: GeoTrust has been contacted by many individuals who have received similar emails, and we are working towards tracking down and contacting the senders of these communications.
